El Paso attorney uses controversial ad to warn men about child support

I have been saying the same thing for years. I’m glad someone like this lawyer made an advertisement like this. We need a more assertive approach to dismantling the nonsense they call “child support.”

Child support has very little to do with children or supporting them.

It’s time to tell the truth about this wretched system of extortion. It’s time to ruffle a few feathers and expose the frauds that run it, support it, and use it. It’s time to say it clearly; child support, as it currently exists, makes no sense:

Local attorney Mark Davis is taking a cynical approach to what he says is a growing problem in the state of Texas.

Davis created an advertisement that is targeted toward women. It asks them how they would like to make thousands of dollars by staying at home, and instructs them how to do so by following simple steps.

1) Get pregnant and have a baby.
2) Once the baby is born, get rid of the father.
3) Get child support money by using a state-appointed, free attorney to sue the father.
4) Spend the money on trips without the child.
5) Spend the money on drinking, expensive restaurants, and clubs.

“Guess what? That’s all legal in Texas,” Davis said.

The ad then targets men, telling them that if the mentioned scenario sounds familiar, call him and lawyer up because the world isn’t fair, and they need to even the odds.

“Generally, the idea of child support is a good thing, people need to take care of their kids, but it’s so abused in the state of Texas,” Davis said. “I don’t mean to offend people by putting this poster out, but I do mean to wake people up to pay attention to what’s going on.

“What this poster brings up is a serious problem, there’s no accountability. What happens is, when someone has to pay child support, they pay it to the Attorney General, then the Attorney General issues a card, it looks like a credit card, and with that credit card, that parent can access the money. Where can they use that credit card? At any bar they want to in El Paso, they’re accepted at bars all over and you can charge drinks on it all night, they can buy drinks for their new boyfriend, or maybe even a pair of new sunglasses.”

Hi, I am going to cut and paste this to my blogsite over here (UK). BTW, I used part of your article the other week (about Dads and Daughters) and added a bit more to the content. Let me know whjt you think (see ‘Whiston’ and ‘WordPress’).

i’m raising my daughter without a dime to my name and she’s doing great. It doesn’t cost that much to raise a child. Not sure why people always claim this.

In reply to Kashdollar, I suspect it is viewed as a cheap, or even free, avenue to achieve an “alternative” wage. I similarly raised my two children for over 12 years without a penny from their mother. How’s that for equality, ‘sisters’ ?

@rwhiston not only do I not get “child support”, I have been PAYING “child extort” for over 10 years. And this for children I have never been given the opportunity to see or be in their life. I lost my job and they wouldn’t even lower this child extort amount from when I was working. Now I’m many $1000’s in arrears and counting. I’m now a fulltime grad student raising a thriving 11 year old little girl on absolutely no money at all. Child extort has done nothing to “support” my child at all. They have ruined our credit, taken our drivers license, levied our checking accounts, threatened to put me in jail leaving my daughter to go to foster care (she has no one else), taken my passport, threatened me with a felony if arrears reach $5000. Not really supporting my child now are they?
